In India, The Pincode/Postal Code introduced on 15th August,1972. The number of digits in Postal code is “SIX” and the format is little different from other countries i.e., In some countries the cities is mentioned in starting of Postal code Like: Russia etc, but in India the cities are mentioned in last of the postal code/Pincode. In India, there are Nine different region. Among Nine, “Eight” are geographical region and “Ninth” is reserved for Army Postal Service.

If we take some hypothetical example like Pincode”123456″, In given Pincode the “First” i.e., ‘1’ digit of Postal code represents one of the regions and the second digit i.e.,”2″ represents the Sub-region or the postal circles in the State and Third i.e., “3” represents the sorting or revenue district. The last three i.e., “456” digit of the Pincode represents the delivery Post Office.
