About Punjab:-

Punjab, is the state where “Sikhism” was founded by “Guru Nanak Dev” in 15th Century and the has the majority in Sikh about 57% of its population and its also the place of Sikhs holiest Shrine “The Golden Temple.” The state of Punjab was formed on 1 November, 1966 by separating Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. It is 16th Largest State in India in terms of population with the total population of 2,77,04,000. The Rural Population of the state is 1,73,17,770 and the Urban Population is 1,03,86,230 with the Population Density of 550 per Sq. km. The state has the Male population of 1,46,39,465 and Female population of 1,31,3,873 with the Sex Ratio of 895 Females per 1000 Males. The state has the total of 23 Districts and the Literacy Rate of 75.8%. (DATA ACCORDING TO CENSUS 2011)

Geography of Punjab:-

Punjab, name derived from two different word ‘Punj’ means “Five” and ‘Aab’ means “River” meaning “Land of Five Rivers” and it also known as “Bread Basket of India” with total over 17 Million tonnes (Data According to 2021). It is the 19th Largest State in India in terms of Land Area with the total Area of 50,362 Sq. km. Punjab shares its border with many states like, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan with a Union territory of Chandigarh as its Capital. It also shares its border with the country of Pakistan. Punjab is divided into three regions, that are: i)Majha, ii) Doaba and iii)Malwa. The state has the average elevation of 300 metres (980 ft) above sea level, with a range from 180 meters (590 ft) in the southwest to more than 500 meters (1,600 ft) around the northeast border.

  • Ravi River
  • Beas River

As name Punjab suggests “Five Rivers” there are five rivers as three flows in India and other two flows in “Pakistan Punjab”.
